Greetings,

“Is the office open?”
“Yes.”
“But the door is locked.  When will the office be open?”

In the Gospels, when the person (“someone” in Matthew 19, “a man” in Mark 10, “a certain ruler” in Luke 18) received Jesus’ answer of “go and sell, give away, and follow me” to the question “What must I do to inherit the Kingdom of God”, the person went away grieving, shocked, and sad.

Not getting the answer you want to hear is never easy, just recall your conversations with young children who want something.  I remember these conversational moments with my own kids.  I now have a healthy dose of such conversation and reaction with my grandkids.  I am also now encountering such conversation and reaction at church, with questions around the opening of the church office, rooms, and campus.

For the record, the church office is open, and the campus is open.  But, following the leadership of our Board of Trustees and the standard of “best practices”, what now comes first is the safety and security of the children and staff in the Light of Christ Children’s Center (LCCC), and of our church staff.  That means, access to the campus is restricted during LCCC hours, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, and the doors to the church office are locked during regular business hours, currently 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m./1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

The office is open to assist in facilitating the mission and ministry needs of our church.  If you need assistance and support, you can take the chance of coming by unannounced to ring the doorbell or knock on the door; you can call ahead, (760) 745-5100; you can schedule an appointment, church@fumcescondido.org .

“Is the office open?”
“Yes, the office is open.”

We look forward to seeing you.

Hope this helps.

Peace,
Pastor William
